Mungo Brush – October 2015

Friday 23rd October.

Picked the girls up from school after work, so finally headed off by just after 4pm. Sydney traffic is a blast, it took us just over an hour to cover 20km’s to reach the F3 from the Northern Beaches. Once on there, there were a few bottle necks of traffic, then we were off. We arrived in Mungo Brush by 7.30pm and luckily for us, we got the last spot at Banksia Green, one of our favourite spots. We set up the tent while the girls went for a walk and looked at the beach. I had pre-pared chicken schnitzel for dinner, which we had on wraps with salad. Was a rather nice evening, with a few stars and Megan even saying she saw a Satellite or two…..(we didn’t see them though!!!) We were in bed by 10pm.

Saturday 24th October.

Everyone slept really really well, so was the consensus the next morning…actually one of the best sleeps Jason and I have had in the camper trailer for a long time. We had a slow breakfast with coffees, before packing the truck and getting ready for a day at the beach. We let the tyres down at the campsite to save stopping again at the start of the beach. Off we went.

On the way there I noticed white flowers on both sides of the road, not quite sure what they were. I did stop and have a look and they were flannel flowers, I have never before seen so many, in such high volume, they were so pretty. My BBF, Julie and I always marvel at them at this time of year when we walk around Manly Dam…..these pics are for her!!!

The tide was low and the water looked brown when we first got on the beach, with me driving….following tracks made by other trucks before us, the girls all thought at one point I was trying to kill them, as there was a lot of jerking with the truck, they think it’s a scream though, a bit like a ride at an amusement park, only on the beach and free!!!

We headed to our favourite beach spot, right up at the back corner, the water here was clear, with a few waves. It wasn’t long, after we parked the truck and set the awning up for the day, that the girls were on their boards and in the water, having a great time, was a little fresh for me though. Jason went for a surf, I just sat eat the truck in the sun and people watched as it was fairly busy.

We had our staple lunch of wraps with assorted toppings, before the girls headed off into the sand dunes behind us with their boards. Zarah and Keira actually took monster high dolls and had a lovely time with them on the top of one dune. It was turning out to be a beautiful day, the cloud slowly disappearing, just sitting and relaxing in the sun, Megan and I playing numerous games of connect four. The girls were in and out of the water all afternoon and surprisingly none of us got burnt…..slip, slop, slapped all afternoon I did!

We left the beach by 4.30pm, many people had had already left by this stage and headed back to camp. We were having a very easy dinner of cup-of-soup with extra noodles thrown in for good measure, they all, including us, enjoyed it, simple and yum!

Megan, Zarah and Keira all had glow sticks and went and played with them, Jason practising his night time photography….as seen below!!! Not too bad, I don’t think!

We were all in bed by before 10pm, a great day had at the beach with hopefully another one tomorrow before we have to head back to Sydney.

Sunday 25th October.

Yet again, everyone had a great sleep, whether it was because it was the right temperature, or a day in the sun and surf, but everyone was up, refreshed and ready to go.

We had breakfasts and coffees, then packed the truck and headed off to the beach again, only staying until 1pm as we had to head back to Sydney. Was a beautiful day and the water was aqua with only tiny lap lap waves. There was a large pod of dolphins swimming not far offshore, which delights us all.

Never get tired of watching dolphins.

The girls went boogey boarding, Jason a surf, firstly with dolphins, then by himself….didn’t last long as there were really no waves. I went for a quick swim, was still rather fresh, but the water was just such a beautiful colour, I couldn’t help but go in.

Finally getting wet myself.

We had lunch, then went for another quick swim before heading off, stopping at some larger sand dunes for the girls to ride their boards down. Weren’t as large as Fraser Island dunes, but they had fun none the less.

Got back to camp and washed up, then started to pack away the trailer, the girls entertaining themselves while we did it. Were on our way by 3pm, which was fairly good timing, stopping to refill the tyres with air and ice-creams. Had a good run back to Sydney, only held up once because of an accident. Were home and unpacked by 7.30pm, everyone having much needed showers!

Was a great short trip away, one which now that summer is almost here we will make often, as we all enjoy the beach!
